David Cottis is the Artistic Director of Instant Classics. Outside the company, he has directed Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth (Leeds Shakespeare Festival), All’s Well That Ends Well (Dartington Hall, Devon), Moby Dick Rehearsed (Cambridge Arts Theatre), The Menaechmi (Shakespeare’s Globe Education), Servant of Two Masters, The Mysteries (University of Northampton), Dr. Faustus, The Comedy of Errors, Much Ado About Nothing (Fast and Loose) and, in French, Huis Clos (Something Wicked).
David’s five-actor adaptation of Oliver Twist was taken on national tour by the Love and Madness Theatre Company. His short libretto, She Stops at Costas, was a finalist in the English National Opera’s Mini-Opera Competition.
David is a visiting lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Middlesex, and has also taught at Mountview Theatre School and the Universities of Northampton, East London and East Anglia.
