Instant Classics wins Mark Marvin Rent Subsidy Award

Instant Classics and the White Bear Theatre were this year’s winners of the Mark Marvin Rent Subsidy Award at the Peter Brook Empty Space Awards, held at the National Theatre Studio.

The award is given to an unfounded company to enable them to produce a show for which they would otherwise be unable to afford theatre rental, and is given jointly to the theatre and company.  Instant Classics will be using the award to produce the London premiere of Silent Partners by Charles Marowitz, about the Faustian relationship between Bertolt Brecht and Eric Bentley.  The award was given by the producer Thelma Holt, who worked with Marowitz at the Open Space Theatre and the Roundhouse in the 1960s and ’70s.
